Did you know that consumers throughout Appalachia consume around 39 pounds of beef per year and and 31 pounds of pork per year?
If consumers were purchasing this meat from regional producers, beef producers would have to slaughter and process 99% of the current beef cattle inventory to meet regional demand, while hog production would need to increase almost 90 fold to reach regional consumption.

On June 9th, our partners Rural Action held their Annual Meeting. In these pictures, Tom Redfern of Rural Action and Josh Waddell, ACEnet, explain Nelsonville's Food Hub and Farm to School Partnership in the Nelsonville Facility. Through their partnership with ACEnet in the Appalachian Accessible Food Network, Rural Action has been able to more efficiently store and distribute frozen local produce to children in schools with some of the highest rates of free and reduced lunch.
Additionally, ACEnet Food Ventures Tenant Casa Nueva Restaurant & Cantina was presented with Rural Action's 2018 Sustainable Business Award, which honors the people, businesses, and organizations that teach us how to live and work in greater harmony with Earth and with each other. Congratulations!
