Some great news!
"COAD and the RSVP program in Athens have received a grant for $75,000 from the Corporation for National and Community Service to conduct a pilot program pairing children and seniors in a learning environment and providing a nutritious lunch from the Regional Food bank (part of Hocking/Athens/Perry Community Action).
5 sites have been selected as part of this pilot program: the Amesville Grange, Shade Community Center, Laurelville Library and 2 church sites in Vinton County. Twice each week senior volunteers will meet with children to practice reading, engage in story telling and crafts and then share a meal. The program hopes to support intergenerational sharing and learning activities that keep young minds engaged and support seniors in meaningful social interaction.
The program is still seeking senior volunteers to help with the project as well as AmeriCorps VISTA - Volunteers In Service To America."
